2016 Cantina del Pino, Ovello, Barbaresco

(100% Nebbiolo)

Who wouldn’t want to drink Barbaresco from the first vineyard to ever make Barbaresco? Located in one of Barbaresco’s most historic sites, Ovello, Cantina del Pino produces wines of stunning precision and depth. The Vacca family, stewards of the estate since 1912, craft their wines with a commitment to tradition and quality. The Ovello vineyard, situated on limestone and sandy soils with a south/southwest exposure, yields wines of exceptional finesse and structure.

Aromas of red cherry, rose petal, and dried herbs evolve into flavors of ripe plum, tobacco, and earthy spice. This wine’s refined tannins and fresh acidity create a harmonious balance, leading to a long, elegant finish. Already beautiful with decanting, this wine will develop even greater complexity over the next 10–20 years. Optimal Drinking Window: 2025–2040

Critical Acclaim:

  • 98 Points - Wine Enthusiast: "A stunningly balanced Barbaresco of exceptional finesse."

  • 96 Points - Wine Spectator: "Concentrated and precise, with a velvety finish.”

  • 95 Points - Wine Advocate: "A benchmark for the 2016 vintage."

2016 Michele Chiarlo, Tortoniano, Barolo

100% Nebbiolo

Named after the Tortonian-era soils that define Barolo’s character, this wine exemplifies Michele Chiarlo’s dedication to crafting elegant, terroir-driven Nebbiolo. Rigorous vineyard management and extended ripening ensure exceptional fruit concentration and complexity.

Red currants, violets, and licorice on the nose give way to flavors of black cherry, truffle, and hints of graphite. Silky tannins and vibrant acidity lend structure and balance, making this wine both approachable and age-worthy. Ready to enjoy now with decanting, but will reach its peak with 8–15 years of cellaring. Optimal Drinking Window: 2024–2036

Critical Acclaim:

  • 95 Points - Wine Enthusiast: "A masterful expression of Barolo's elegance and power."

  • 93 Points - Wine Advocate: "Refined and beautifully textured."

2016 Pecchenino, Le Coste di Monforte, Barolo

100% Nebbiolo

With a winemaking history dating back to the 1700s, Pecchenino is one of Piedmont’s most respected family-owned estates. The Le Coste vineyard, spanning only four acres, boasts 20+-year-old vines planted in calcareous marl soils, yielding Nebbiolo with remarkable purity and vibrancy.

Tasting Notes: Layers of blackberries, dried roses, and clove meet savory notes of truffle and smoked meat. The wine’s firm tannins and bright acidity promise exceptional aging potential, while its clean, fruit-forward profile makes it delightful even in its youth.

Aging Potential: This wine will benefit from long-term aging and reach its peak over the next 15–25 years.
Optimal Drinking Window: 2026–2045

Critical Acclaim:

  • 95 Points - James Suckling: "A classic Barolo with exceptional aging potential."

  • 95 Points - Jeb Dunnuck: "Pure, focused, and beautifully structured."
